I am here to tell you there is hope. Yes, I am sure you have heard this all before. But I am talking to mostly Christians right now.
I have much to say today because of the heaviness in my heart, people are depressed, discouraged, in despair, some may be at the end of their roped. People are feeling indifferent, walking around with no feelings at all. There are so many out there that feel hopeless. People get themselves into all kinds of “stupors.”
Stop letting the enemy, satan (that name does not deserve a capital letter in front of it as far as I am concerned), that old devil, the serpent that twisted things around speaking to Eve…well if you are in anyone of these different “state of mind” as I just mentioned, he has you in the same place…Listening to lies. I am here to tell you STOP. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
SELFISHNESS! You are being selfish. Depression, discouragement, despair, not being able to cope, or feeling indifferent, all comes from thinking of one thing and one thing only. We are totally and completely selfish in these states. ME….YOU….YOURSELF….I….ME. I, in myself never conquered anything. Only through the grace, love, goodness and hope in Christ Jesus am I or you able to do anything…conquor anything and come out totally victorious. You can too. Get up now, read this to begin with, then hit your knees and pray and seek the Lord God Almighty like you never have.
Am I being hard on you? Yes I am. I wish when I was in this “state” someone would have told me to get up and STOP! I probably would have rejected them the first time…amybe the fifth and sixth, but God is faithful and I know if you are feeling this way you will remember this. I remembered what the Lord did for me.
You want answers to why things are the way they are? Why you are not ‘happy’? Why things seem to be falling a part? There are many other questions we can ask ourselves when we find we are not in the place we know we ought to be with the Lord.
Here is Paul’s answer to you.
Ephesians 5:13-20 (Amplified Bible)
But when anything is exposed and reproved by the light, it is made visible and clear; and where everything is visible and clear there is light. (exposure hurts, but it is needed) 14 Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead (spiritual sleep and spiritual death, spiritual stupor, if you will) and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you light. 15 Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), 16 Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery (sin; dishonesty; corruption and wickedness) but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. 19 Speak out to one another (encourage) in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices [and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord, (tell and speak to one another in truth and love with gentleness and humility) 20 At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. (This is where most of us fall short and when we begin to take the things of the Lord for granite and fall into our stupors.)
Here is a good answer from Isaiah.
Isaiah 58:1-14 (Amplified Bible)
1-CRY ALOUD, spare not. Lift up your voice like a trumpet and declare to My people their transgression and to the house of (your personal name here) Jacob their sins! (Selfishness of any sort is sin is depression and all the other things that were listed.) 2-Yet they seek, inquire for, and require Me daily and delight, externally(outwardly, for show), to know My ways, as [if they were in reality] a nation that did righteousness and forsook not the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me righteous judgments, they delight to draw near to God [in visible ways].
3-Why have we fasted, they say, and You do not see it? Why have we afflicted ourselves, and You take no knowledge [of it]? Behold [O Israel (your personal name here)], on the day of your fast [when you should be grieving for your sins], you find profit in your business, and [instead of stopping all work, as the law implies you and your workmen should do] you extort from your hired servants a full amount of labor.
4-[The facts are that] you fast only for strife and debate and to smite with the fist of wickedness. Fasting as you do today will not cause your voice to be heard on high.
5-Is such a fast as yours what I have chosen, a day for a man to humble himself with sorrow in his soul? [Is true fasting merely mechanical?] Is it only to bow down his head like a bulrush and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him [to indicate a condition of heart that he does not have]? Will you call this a fast and an acceptable day to the Lord? 6-[Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [enslaving] yoke?
7-Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house—when you see the naked, that you cover him, and that you hide not yourself from [the needs of] your own flesh and blood (family)?
8-Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness (your rightness, your justice, and your right relationship with God) shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
9-Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, Here I am. IF you take away from your midst yokes of oppression [wherever you find them], the finger pointed in scorn [toward the oppressed or the godly], and every form of false, harsh, unjust, and wicked speaking,
10-And if , pour out (give up as if your life depended on these things) that with which you sustain your own life for the hungry and satisfy the need of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in darkness, and your obscurity and gloom become like the noonday. (What satisfies you; food, money, clothing, job…etc)
11-And the Lord shall guide you continually and satisfy you in drought and in dry places and make strong your bones. And you shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters fail not.
12-And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt (your past); you shall raise up the foundations of [buildings that have laid waste for] many generations; and you shall be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.
13–If you turn away your foot from [traveling unduly on] the Sabbath, from doing your own pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a [spiritual] delight, the holy day of the Lord honorable, and honor Him and it, not going your own way or seeking or finding your own pleasure or speaking with your own [idle] words,
14-Then will you delight yourself in the Lord, and I will make you to ride on the high places of the earth, and I will feed you with the heritage [promised for you] of Jacob (your personal name here) your father; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.
We still hold pity parties and the woe is me….eventhough we know what the word says.
We search and search for answers. We wonder ‘why’ we do the things we do. Yet the answer is staring us right smack dab in the face. It is “SELF”. We don’t like seeing the we are our own problem. “There has to be an other reason why this is going on in my life…it couldn’t be me.” How many times have any of us said this to ourselves? I have….more times than I want to admit.
We want change. We need to start with crying our to the Lord, just as Isaiah is speaking of here, and empty ourselves of SELF.
When we are an empty vessel, God is able to do something with us.
As for the fasting and other “spiritually religious” stuff…I am not intending any disrespect here…we can put on such errs that we seem and look by all appearances we are going well in our walk with Christ we have ourselves fooled, but others are looking on and wondering, “Uh, what is going on with her/him?” Maybe not exactly in those words. God is not fooled by our “paper bags” we wear or our charades….and neither are Christians that are walking in the Spirit of God. A holy walk proves itself. A walk that is pretense, shows. We don’t want others to know we are not doing well or falling apart in the inside, in our spirit. But that is the best place to start asking for help. First pouring ourselves out before the Lord, and allow Him to the inside work. Second, is our most feared place most of us do not want to go….Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. (This is the same power that raised Christ from the dead….we….you and I can have and obtain this same power.) James 5:16 (Amplified Bible)
When we do these two main things, THEN AND ONLY THEN can the Lord begin to restore your heart and life.
Romans 12:1-2(Amplified Bible)
I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
Jesus desires us to have abundant life in Him (John 10:10). This life only comes through change. Change that ONLY comes by allowing the Lord to do the work in us as we submit ourselves to Him. Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, 7 Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. 1 Peter 5:6-7 (Amplified Bible)
God loves you so. Trust Him. He wants to bring you out of the despair you feel you are in. He is right there reach out to HIm. Call out His name. He will hear you. I am praying for you. God bless you.
