What is this life all about?

Many people, Christian and non-Christian ask the question, “What is this life all about?” “What am I doing here and why?” there are many other questions that we all have asked ourselves from time to time.

This life we live is not about us. So many times we have our theories of life all backwards and twisted around every which way, but the right way. So what is the right way and why is not this life about me, it’s my life isn’t it?

Our life is a gift. Everyday is a gift. The gift of this life is from God, the creator of heaven and earth. (Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 2:4-5  These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, [5] And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.) The One that created you. (Genesis 1:27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Psalm 100:3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.)

This is what many Christian think this life is about. Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

This is so incredibly true. But there is so much more to this life in Christ than salvation. Yes, I am heaven bound, and so are you if you have accepted Christ as your Savior. Praise God!!!! I want more! I don’t know about you, but I want more than just knowing I will go to heaven with Jesus for eternity.

It is much like getting to know my husband or a friend. You can go to them shake their hand, say “hi, how do you do, how are you,” then go about your day. Later, yu may see each other and “how’s the weather at your place,” “it’ kinds breezy and cool over here.” What is that all about? I know them, but then again I don’t know them at all. I want to know what makes my husband tick and what things my friend likes or doesn’t….and so on. This all takes time.

It is called a relationship. Relationships take time to build. They take much from you and not expecting anything in return. That may seem one-sided. But as one gives of themselves to another, sooner or later the other will respond. That is what Jesus did with us. He gave His all for us, now it is up to us how we respond to Him. Here is a small example to what Jesus did for us.

John 3:16 
    For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 

Matthew 18:11-13 
    For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. [12] How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? [13] And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

John 10:7-16 
    Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. [8] All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. [9] I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. [10] The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. [11] I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. [12] But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. [13] The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. [14] I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. [15] As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. [16] And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

John 10:27 
    My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

This is a relationship. He has been creating for us. What is my response.

Psalm 73:28 
    But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.

Hebrews 4:16 
    Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 7:19 
    For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

Hebrews 10:22 
    Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

James 4:8 
    Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Rev. 3:20 
    Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

This is what Jesus wants from us, to respond in inviting Him in so that we may know Him. Just as Mary chose the good part…she sat and learned at His feet…listening to Him…not telling Him how thing were to be as her sister did… but resting and leaning of Him. (Luke 10:38-42…also look at Matthew 10:28-30)
