I have heard it said we need to read this or that so we can understand what the Bible is telling us.
Let me tell you dear ones you don’t need anything but the Bible for instruction and yourself in your prayer closets.
Read God's Word and Ask for Understanding
If you read something, lets say from the King James Bible, the one most say is so hard to understand, then GO PRAY and ASK THE LORD FOR UNDERSTANDING. All throughout time God has given man understanding, because they sincerely desired to know God and what He wanted.
2 Chronicles 1:6-12 (King James Version)
6 And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the Lord, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it. 7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9 Now, O Lord God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
If God would do this for Solomon’s asking, God will do this for you and me. God is not stingy or not want us to understand what He wants for us, tha is a lie of satan. Satan has been lying to man from Genesis chapter 3 with Eve, successfully getting her to believe God was holding out on her and Adam. God does not lie. ( Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? )
Exodus 31:1-5
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.
God is speaking to Moses here about Bezaleel in building pieces for the Tabernacle. God gave this man understanding, wisdom and the ability to craft what God desired for the Tabernacle. Okay, we may think we understand God-given talent to craft out something or having the ability and talent to paint wonderful masterpieces, to desire and have the understanding of Scripture is not any different. You want to know what God is speaking through His Word, ask.
Matthew 7:7-14
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? 12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Psalms 32:8-9
8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. 9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee. (Don’t be stubborn.)
Read teh Word
Proverbs 4:1-13 (When it reads “her” it is speaking of wisdom.)
1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. 3 For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. 4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. 5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. 9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. 10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. 11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

God’s Word will never lead us astray.
I am not tell you not to get books that help you to understand a subject or a book to help you in some way, just make sure you read the Word of God to see if it lines up with what God say. I do we know if it does? If you do not know how to look up Scripture and study it out….PRAY! The Lord will show you. Anyway, I have several and I have also thrown others away after beginning reading them for a bit…for one reason or an other. There is nothing wrong with being VERY selective about what you read and put into your thinking. Be selective, I believe the Lord wants us to be.
For many years the only instructional BOOK people had to use to know what God desired and how to please Him was through the Word God commanded men to write. These writings have proved themselves over time and time again. Don’t doubt what the Word is saying and telling you. Yes the Word speaks so listen.
